Joyce Carol Hilliard, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, passed away at home unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. She was 72. Joyce was born to Wayne and Wilma Duncan on October 5, 1948, in Grovespring, Missouri, and moved to the Kansas City area as a child. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1966. Joyce was a hard working and independent woman, spending most of her life working in the accounting field while raising her daughter, Kelli. When she wasn’t working, she was helping her family. Joyce loved enjoying nature at their lake house and shopping for treasures at antique stores and estate sales. She also enjoyed gardening, trying new recipes, and watching historical era dramas.
Joyce was a planner and the glue that held her family together. She always made sure that holiday celebrations held at her home were inviting and memorable for her loved ones.
Joyce was outgoing and never met a stranger. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and everyone who knew her.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Roy; daughter, Kelli Lewis; sister, Donna Paxton; brother, Michael Duncan; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Duncan Lewis and nieces and nephews.
She’s preceded in death by her parents; sister, Janet Duncan and brother, Jerry Duncan.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 25th from 10-11:00am at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery.
