Virginia Lee Brady-Hoare, daughter of LeRoy and Flossie Featherstun-Brady had two sisters and two brothers. The late Mary Alice Tourtillott of Seneca Missouri. The late Laura Pate of Houston Texas. Howard 'Bud' Brady of Apple Valley Minnesota. The Late Roy 'Babe' Brady of Seneca Missouri. Two sons, Thomas Scott Orr and his wife Ann of Lee's Summit Missouri, Randall Brady Orr and his wife Mimi Lapeyre-Orr and their two children (Virginia's grandchildren) Henry Thomas Orr and Stella Lapeyre-Orr. A stepson, David Toms and wife Sheila Toms of Cornwall, England. Virginia graduated from Seneca High School. With outbreak of WWII, she traveled to Washington DC and was employed by the FBI, first in Washington DC and then later in New Orleans Louisiana. At the end of WWII in 1945 when Thomas 'Tom' Hoare returned from battle in the European Theatre. They married in her parent's home in Seneca, Missouri. They lived a happy fulfilling life primarily in Independence, Missouri. Raised two sons, went back to school and earned a BS degree in Education from CMSC in Warrensburg, Missouri. She taught kindergarten at North Rock Creek in Independence Missouri for nine years. Her husband Tom was diagnosed with cancer and passed away on September 16,1972 in Independence. They were been planning to both retire and move back to their hometown of Seneca Missouri in 1973. Virginia oversaw the design and building of the house that they were planning together and once it was completed, she moved back to Seneca on her own. Soon after moving to the new home she was elected to the Seneca School Board. She and her sister Mary Alice and two other women is Seneca established the Seneca Historical Committee and went on to compile and self-publish 'Seneca Missouri - The Little Town on the Border'. After that the Seneca Historical Committee went on to self-publish seven additional volumes. Staying active in the community, she also resurrected the Newton County Historical Society and served for several years as its President. She was past President of several local organizations including the Seneca Chamber of Commerce, Alumni Association, Seneca Study Club, Country School Restoration Project, Business and Professional Women's Club and served on the Seneca Cemetery Board for Twenty Years. In 1992 she was honored by the S.A.R. with the Good Citizens Award and honored by Shoal Creek Heritage Preservation for preserving the history of Seneca Missouri. She was a member of the Joplin Women's Club and the Joplin branch of the American Association of University Women. She delighted in her country home north of Seneca and her travels took her to Europe and many Elderhostel Educational Programs across the U.S. In 2008 she returned to Independence and renewed old acquaintances and made new friends by volunteering at the Vaile Mansion, enrolling in writing classes and writing self-publishing her own autobiography in 2010.She was lifelong Christian Scientist and a member of the Fourth Church of Christ Science, Kansas City. Cremation is planned with a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 9, 2021 at the John Knox Village Chapel, 400 N.W. Murray Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081.
