Neil M. Hockemeier, 73, of Independence, MO, passed away May 7, 2014 at his home. A rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m., followed by a visitation from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. In memory of Neil, contributions may be made to Catholic Community Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Neil was born April 20, 1941 in Carrollton, MO to Wm. Henry and Dorothy Marie Hockemeier. Neil attended school in both Carrollton, MO and in Richmond, MO, graduating in 1959 from Richmond High School. He served in the Missouri Army National Guard from 1963-1969. Neil’s interests included fishing, golfing, handywork and Tuesday breakfast with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Billy Dale Hockemeier; and one son, Philip John Hockemeier. Neil is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Louise Hockemeier; two children, Glen Raymond Hockemeier, Laura Jane Martin and husband Jason; one grandson, his absolute pride and joy, Braeden Rhys Martin; one sister, Lois Marie Beaman and husband Bruce; brother, David Hockemeier and wife Betty; as well as many nieces and nephews.
