Charles Hodges

Phil Hodges, 73, of Grain Valley, MO, passed away June 4, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Blue Springs Assembly of God (2501 NE Duncan Road). Visitation will be Monday, June 9, 2014, from 5-8 pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery, in Higginsville, MO. Phil was born on September 8, 1940 in Joplin, MO, to Charles E. and Martha (Roach) Hodges. In 1962 while on routine patrol, he met and married the love of his life, Martha “Marti” Middleton in Independence, MO. Together they raised 3 wonderful children. Phil was a very hard working man from humble beginnings, and he never lost the lessons learned along the way. Phil was fond of saying that he went to College… to pick up Charlie Trail’s sister! He knew the importance of education, and strongly encouraged his children to attend. Phil was a self made man, extremely hard working, but he never forgot his Blessings and Faith in all God had provided,, including his loving family. Over the years Phil had many jobs; Policeman, Fireman, Realtor, Real Estate Developer, Builder, and most recently farmer. Phil was a kind, and generous man, that always took others needs into consideration before making any decisions. With his wife “Marti” by his side, they traveled around the country, quietly and anonymously helping others on the way. His passing will leave a huge void in many lives, and he will be missed greatly. Phil is preceded in death by; mother, Martha Gilliam; step-mother, Mildred Hodges; brother; Daryl Hodges; and sister, Bonnie Lester. Survivors include; his wife of 52 years, Martha “Marti” Hodges; daughter, Cheryl Beckman; sons, Charles “Ernie” Hodges and wife Kelly, Phillip “Eddie” Hodges and wife Missy; father, Charles Hodges; sister Pam Litton; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Roads Hospice.
