Evelyn (Whittaker) Hodkins, 98, Independence, MO, passed away Feb. 10, 2016. Funeral services will be 10 am, Sat., Feb. 20 at Carson-Speaks Midtown Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 am before the service at the chapel.
Evelyn was born June 2, 1917 in Fostoria, Ohio. Spending her childhood in Kansas City, she became a lifelong resident of Independence, MO, where she reared her three children; Nancy (Cox) Woods, Jim Cox, and Bertha (Cox) Casler. She was baptized into the RLDS (Community of Christ) church in 1944. She loved all church activities, rearing her children, crocheting, and time spent with family and friends. She loved to have fun and had a very infectious laugh. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold E. Hodkins and mother Bertha Mae Knight. She is survived by her three children; two granddaughters, Shelly McCanless and husband Ed, and Amy Daniels; four great grandchildren, Sarah Lathrop and husband Brandon, Drew McCanless, Cody Daniels and Christopher Daniels; and three great great grandsons, Keaten McCanless-Romeo, and Kyler and Kaleb Lathrop. The family requests contributions to the City Union Mission, K.C., MO. Evelyn will be greatly missed by all but especially by her two daughters, Nancy & Bertha, and son, Jim
