June Christine Holland, 86, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2020. June was born on June 1, 1934 in Weston Missouri, to Leroy and Gladys Craven. She graduated from Northeast High School in the class of 1952, then married Albert Holland and three children were born to this union: Vanessa, Mary and Jerry. They divorced in 1981. She later met the love of her life Bob Ninemeire, and they were engaged for over 20 years. June was an insurance adjuster for over 30 years. She was also a loving wife, mother and homemaker, who had a passion for cooking home-cooked meals, especially fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. She always made sure a jar of apple butter was available on every kitchen table and countertop.
June was such an ornery, bubbly, fierce and strong-willed woman who didn’t sugarcoat anything and always spoke her mind. She loved gambling at the boat and playing bingo. She also enjoyed fishing at any lake and loved morel mushroom hunting every year behind the Twin Drive-In in Independence Missouri. June was known to so many as “Miss June,” “Juner,” “June Bug” and “Grandma.” This month, she won “Queen of July” at the Redwood Nursing Facility of Independence and she will be dearly missed by the many friends she made there, as well as her caregiver, Brandi.
June is survived by her daughters Vanessa June Bowerman; Mary Louise Hernandez; five grandchildren, Michael and Laura Bowerman, Chad (Rachelle) Stewart, Danielle Hernandez, and Anthony (Megan) Hernandez; four great-grandchildren Zach and Chloe Stewart, Alexandrea and Kennedy Fiene; niece Terresa (Jeff) Winch, great-nephew Nicolas Winch, and nephew Al Sanchez. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Bob Ninemeire; son Jerry Holland; brothers Noel Craven, LeRoy Craven Jr., Bill Craven; sisters Claudene Mattos, and Pearl Decker, and parents LeRoy and Gladys Craven.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Crossroads Hospice care and to June’s main nurse Cindy, for taking exceptional care of June. The family will be having a private service to honor June.
