Debra Sue Hollis, age 64 of Independence, MO was born September 1, 1951 in LaCrosse, KS and passed away July 16, 2016 at KU Medical Center after a lengthy battle with pancreatitis. Survivors include husband Frank of the home; son, Michael Hollis of Huntsville, MO; daughters, Tamara Hollis of Independence, MO, LeAnn Hollis and Stacey Hollis of Kansas City MO; sister, Mary Beth Wagner of Rush Center, KS; brothers, Gary, Galen, and Rick Schmidt of Lacrosse, KS., Joseph Schmidt of Wamego KS, John Schmidt of Hoisington KS, Mark Schmidt of Solomon KS; in addition to several nieces and nephews and friends. "Debbie" was preceded in death by her parents Cyril and Marie Schmidt; brother, Mike Schmidt; and sister, Judith Addams. Debra was an active member of Rockwood Baptist Church and Preschool teacher in the Parents Day Out program. She had a zeal for life and was proudly involved in many activities with her Church family, VBS, GA's, softball league, volunteering with local food banks Fairmount Community Outreach and Community Service League.
What many say they will be miss most is her contagious sense of humor, home cooked meals, and having a true friend to count on for support. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO, with graveside services held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July, 23, at the Hollis Cemetery in Alton, MO.
