Anna Mae Holt, 92, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019. A celebration of life will be held from 6-9pm, February 25, 2019 at Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64052. Graveside service will be Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 11am at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Anna was born September 14, 1926 in Belle Rose, LA to Sidney and Agnes (Landry) Dugas. She was a twin and the youngest of 4 girls. In 1946, while attending Kohn High School in New Orleans, Anna met Benton Holt, who was in the Navy, stationed in New Orleans. Six weeks later, the two were married and moved back to Benton’s hometown of Kansas City. Anna and Benton had two children, Benton Jr and Roberta. Anna was a stay at home mother, until the children started school. She then began working as a bookkeeper at a department store, until her husband’s death. She was a member of St. Regis Catholic Church for over 25 years. Anna was spunky and adventurous, though she never learned to drive. She was known as a “Spit Fire from New Orleans” and never stopped moving. She volunteered, traveled, and loved working her garden, specifically her blackberries and tomatoes. She mowed the yard well into her 80’s. Anna loved life, the drama of politics, and working puzzles. Anna is survived by her children, Benton (Kathy) Holt Jr and Roberta Holt-Kipper; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous exchange student “grandchildren”. She is preceded in death by her husband, Benton Holt Sr; both parents; and sisters Laura Lee Durnin, Anna Lee Gibson and Carolyn Berger. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Harbor Hospice or the Northeast High School Viking Pantry.
