Willa Hooper

October 9, 1930 — January 5, 2013

Willa Lea Hooper, 82, of Independence, MO passed peacefully in her sleep January 5th 2013. She was born on October 9th, 1930 to Charles Lee and Audrey M. (Boyd) Schnitker in Cross Timbers, MO.
Willa grew up in Hickory County and graduated from Cross Timbers High School in 1948. Willa was married to Marion D. Hooper in 1952 until his death in 1964. To this union was born two sons, Gary Wayne and Randall Keith and one daughter, Belinda Gayle. In 1959 they moved their family to Independence, Mo. where Willa lived out the rest of her life. Her work career began at the downtown Woolworth store but she soon began eight years of employment at Sears Catalog Center. Willa worked at various Hi-Boy Drive In restaurants and during the time she was an unwavering and loving caregiver to her son, Randall, who suffered with muscular dystrophy until his passing at the age of 30. Much too soon her care giving became focused on the terminal illness of her daughter Belinda who passed at the age of 25 with cancer. After their deaths she became a licensed Real Estate agent finishing her career retiring from Prudential Real Estate Co. in 1997.
Willa grew to love her Lord through faithful membership in Cross Timbers Christian Church, Maywood Baptist Church and then Noland Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed her Sunday School friends, her Red Hat lunches, her yard work and flowers, playing her organ and Jassman, her kitty. She is survived by her son Gary and his children Brandon, Krystal and Jeffrey who she loved dearly and was visiting at the time of her passing. Also surviving is her sister, Joan and husband, Jerry Mackey and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday Jan 12th with services following at 10:00 a.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18029 E 39th St., Independence, Mo. Burial will follow at the Nemo Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. in Nemo, Mo. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Noland Road Baptist Church, 4505 S. Noland Rd., Independence, MO 64055 or the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 9200 Ward Pkwy., Ste. 350, Kansas City, MO 64114
