Beth M. Hopkins (Nesheim), 71, of Independence, Missouri, died on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Centerpoint Medical Center. There will be a private memorial service for family members at a later date. Beth was born on July 1, 1950, in Goldfield, Iowa, the daughter of Phillip and Lois (Bliven) Nesheim. She attended elementary school and high school in the Des Moines area, and graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in 1972. She was married to Gary Kallevang from 1972 to 1979 and they had a daughter, Britta, born in 1978. Beth married David Hopkins in 1982, and they made their home in the Kansas City area in the years since. Beth spent most of her career working for the Social Security Administration in its Kansas City service center, and she retired from that agency. Beth was kind-hearted and caring, going to great lengths to help her close family members deal with their medical problems in recent years. Beth enjoyed caring for practically everything that walked and breathed — pets, neighbors, friends, and her many gardens. She loved to read and had a deep appreciation for art and music. Beth is survived by her husband, David Hopkins; her daughter, Britta Kallevang of Frederick, Maryland; her brother Michael Nesheim, of Blue Springs; her step-daughter Sheila Hopkins of Mesa, AZ, and her nieces, Wendy Berdine (Derek), of Kansas City, MO, and Carrie Allison-Rolling (Don), of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Bach, her father, Phillip Nesheim, and her sisters, Wendy Nesheim and Suzanne Lattimer.
