Joey Horton, 31, of Independence, passed away Saturday November 10, 2012. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday November 15th at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th Street in Independence. Funeral services will be on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Suburban Chapel. Burial will be Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
Joey was born September 19th, 1981 in Kansas City to Gary Wayne Horton and Deborah Oldham. He was raised by his grandparents, Jackie and Donavon. Joey graduated from Truman High school. Recently, he worked selling cars for Midwest Auto Group. He was an accomplished BMX bike rider earning many trophies in tournaments. Joey also earned many awards for playing pool and billiards, as well as his musical talents. Joey was passionate about music and singing. His band, Before Dead Summer, recently won first place at the Vodoo Lounge’s Freaker’s Ball. Joey was a kind person who easily made friends. His “happy go lucky” spirit allowed him to love life to the fullest. He will be especially missed by his two compadres of the “Three Amigos”, cousin, Brandon Oldham and brother, Jesse Stewart.
Joey is survived by his mother, Deborah Oldham and stepfather, Steve Stewart of Independence; daughters, Gillian and Kynlee Horton of Arlington, TX; grandparents; Donavon and Jackie Oldham of Independence; step grandmother, Mary G. Stewart formerly of Independence; brother, Jesse Stewart and wife Joanie of Lake Lotawana, MO; father, Gary. W Horton; brother, Jessy Horton of Independence; sisters, Heather and Vanessa Waterfield; sister, Taylor Reeves; paternal grandparents, Bill and Evelyn Horton; step grandfather, Donald L. Stewart; mother of his children, Chelsea Boyd; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his beloved dog, Jake. He was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Barbara Congdon and great grandparents, Leo and Anne (Fanara) Oldham.
