Ronald M. Hoskins

Ronald Monroe Hoskins was born on July 18, 1939 in Boone Iowa and the family soon moved to Mountain Home Arkansas. When he was 8 years old, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Westport High School and then joined the Navy at 17 years of age in 1956. He served in the Mobile Intelligence Production Unit, Pacific and was stationed in Japan.
He was known to his friends as Ron or Ronnie, worked for Butler Paper Company, which later became Unisource. He retired from Unisource in 2005 after working for the company for 35 years. Ron was very strong in his faith and had a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ. For many years, Ron and his wife Georgia opened their home to host a Youth For Christ group. Many nights were spent ferrying young people to the YFC auditorium to attend services. They later became Youth Sponsors at their local church, Central Assembly of God in Independence Missouri. Ron remained very active at Central Assembly including spending several years as a member of the Board of Deacons and as a Sunday School Teacher.
Ron was preceded in death by his adoptive father, James Ray Hoskins and his Mother, Chloe Woods, and a younger brother, Jimmy Lynn Hoskins. He is survived by his wife Georgia of Independence MO. Son Stephen Hoskins (Debbie), of Kansas City, Rev. David Hoskins (Julie) of Georgetown SC, Mark Hoskins of Independence MO, one daughter, Janice Kanter of Lawrence Ks, and son James Hoskins of Independence MO. He had 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Ron loved contemporary Christian music as well as the old hymns and southern gospel. He was an avid reader of Christian fiction, loved to do crossword puzzles, and he was a huge fan of the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, the Missouri Tigers, and the KU Jayhawks. He could often be found watching game shows or sports when he wasn’t reading or doing puzzles.
A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Central Assembly of God, 1009 W 23rd St, Independence MO. Burial will be held at Mt. Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to NorthCare Hospice House are encouraged. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com.
