Alice was born April 15, 1933 in Independence MO the daughter of Arnold R. and Anna E. (Clark) Ward. She attended St. Mary's School, first through 8th grade moving to Buckner MO as a Freshman, later graduating from Hall's Memorial This began the life as we know, meeting her forever and ever true love, Bill (Wm E.) Hostetter. They were married for 56 years, Bill preceded her in death April 2006. Alice was a Christian by faith and her family is comforted to know they are together again. Before she left us she had to say goodbye to both parents, brother Durwood A. and wife Alice M. (Hart) Ward, Bill's parents, W.E. (Chili) and Marguerite Hostetter. Family was always number one and they would be hard pressed to know a more kind, giving, sharing, generous and loving person, mother and friend. Alice is survived by her four daughters, Linda A. Hostetter (Carole Sapp) Independence MO, Kathy L. Nelson and Richard (Rick) Lee's Summit MO, Virginia K. (Ginger) Gonzalez (David) Blue Springs MO and Billie M. Arndt (Tyrone), Independence MO; grandchildren Tammy Nelson Walker (Paul), great-grandsons Seth and Caleb, Grain Valley MO, Damon Nelson (Erin), great-granddaughters Elizabeth, Natalie and Jillian, Blue Springs MO, Heather Nelson Deyerle (Bob), great-grandchildren Kallie and Nelson Blue Springs MO. Grandchildren Allison (Arndt) Houghtaling (Clinton), and Tyler Arndt (fiance' Molly Ingram), Independence MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Alice, Bill and family lived in Buckner MO building their lives, diving into Real Estate and moving to Blue Springs in 1972. Even though Alice seemed a natural salesperson and sold the first house before Bill, she would say "she moved on to more exciting things." She will be remembered as an avid bowler in the 1960's-70's. An even more avid shopper her entire life… She owned and operated AJ's Hair Tenders in Blue Springs, with her daughter Kathy for 30 years. She volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital for 10 years, loving the Gift Shop where she could meet many people and SHOP. She had a great sense of humor, loved to travel, go to the movies and attend all the grandchildren's extra curriculars when she could. Her "fifth" daughter which she showered with equal love and affection, Miss Kitty, will ever be grateful she opened the back door to let her in. The daughters would like to give special thank you’s to all nurses and caregivers through Crossroads Hospice. Such a huge blessing. The caregivers at The Parkway Senior Living in Blue Springs and to her friends and families, sharing their time, calls, cards and laughter with Alice. Her daughters were the mainstay in her life. Their times together will have the best stories, hardest laughs, and most sentimental journeys to share. There is no easy way to let a mother go when her life gave you life and death becomes that new life for her. Yet we will carry on her memory and for those that would remember her as well, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crossroad Hospice, Independence MO or Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, Blue Springs, MO where Alice was a member and the Independence SPCA Animal Shelter.
