Born Artis Croweley in 1918 at Knob Noster, MO, Artis died June 11, 2007, at her residence in Kansas City, MO. Services will be 1:30 pm, Friday, June 15, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, Independence, MO; burial in Floral Hills East cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 pm Thursday at the Chapel. A seamstress by trade, she raised her three children in Holden, MO, where she worked at Hipsh Manufacturing before working at Pratt & Whitney during WWII and then at Lace City Arsenal. Artis moved to Kansas City in 1953, where she sewed for Nat Nast, Wilson Sporting Goods, finally retiring from H&R Williams Mill Supply. Subsequently, she did charitable service in the Seniors Companion and Foster Grandparents programs. She retired from service at the age of 82. Originally wed to Walter Lee Scrogham, in 1954 Artis married Richard Hotchkiss. Both men preceded her in death. Also preceding her were a daughter and a son, Barbara Jean and Charles Lee Scrogham; her three brothers, Stuart Eugene, Oliver Osborn, and Densel Lee Crowley; and her twin sister, Arlene Potts. Artis is survived by her daughter, Wanda Faye Hale, grandchildren Victor, Donald, Glennda, James, and John Miller, and several great-grandchildren.
