Donna Jean Housman (Gallagher)

Donna Jean Housman passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 10th, 2022. She was 93 years old. Donna was born December 11, 1928 to parents Charles and Bertha “Bess” (Wilson) Gallagher in Kansas City, Missouri. Donna was the oldest of two children, with younger brother David.

Immediately after graduating high school, Donna attended the Missouri State Teacher’s college located in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Donna wed Ralph LeRoy Housman February 19th, 1949, and together they had three children. They lived and raised their family in Sugar Creek, having lived in the same home since 1949. Ralph and Donna were married 72 years.

Donna was a very dynamic woman who had many hobbies and interests. She especially enjoyed traveling many years with their bank travel group. They did a day trip by bus every month, and once a year would go on a larger trip. Donna’s favorite destination was the hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She spent her free time volunteering at the Palmer and Sermon Centers in Independence, painting, sewing, and photography as well as astrology. Donna liked spending time with friends and family, always being the first to tell a joke if there was a lull in conversation.

Donna loved cat rescue, taking in many strays throughout her life. Donna was a very skilled painter, painting many pieces depicting nature and fruit. She painted not only on canvas, but also painted intricate tableware like teacups and saucers.

She is survived by her brother, David Gallagher (Delores); son, Mark Housman (Vickie); and grandchildren, Kevin Housman (Tonya), Jessica Iske (Justin), Lisa Doble, Trish Lamley, and Greg Housman.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lucille Gallagher; husband, Ralph Housman Sr.; and son, Ralph Housman Jr.
