Betty Houtchens

August 9, 1931 — April 10, 2017

Betty Houtchens, 85, of Independence, MO passed away April 10, 2017. Visitation will be from 1-2pm Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2pm at the chapel. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. Betty was born on August 9, 1931 in Kansas City, MO to Marvin and Dorothy (Henderson) Ochsner. She graduated from North East High School. For over 35 years Betty was employed with Bayer in Crop Science Division. After retirement, Betty was a greeter at Price Chopper, a job that she loved. She was a vocal armchair coach for her beloved Royals and Chiefs! She rarely missed a game. Betty loved being outside either fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks, attending sporting activities with her grandchildren, or attending area events like the Santa Cali Gon. She also loved spending time with her grand children and great grandchildren, going to the casinos, and reading. For over 56 years, Betty was a member of the Eagles club. Survivors include; daughter Diana Mcquarry and her husband Ken; daughter Janet Cullinan and her husband Dan; daughter JoAnn Shields; daughter Sandy Miller; son Danny Houtchens and partner Sondra; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; a large extended family and many friends. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Nancy Wolfe, son Terry S. Houtchens, and a sister, Mary Robinson.
