Katie Howell, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away December 2, 2014. Katie was born in Independence, MO on May 11, 1923. She spent her entire life in the Kansas City area. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1941. Katie married Louis Dale Howell on April 4, 1946 and they were married for 65 years before his death on December 21, 2011. She worked for Dr. E.L. Saunders M.D. in Independence, MO for 9 years and also worked at Chapel School in Raytown, MO for 10 years. She and her husband were co-owners of State Beauty Supply of Johnson County before their retirement in 1993. Katie was PTA president of both Raytown Junior High and Senior High Schools. She was president of John Knox Village Auxiliary and also president of Lee’s Summit Hospital Auxiliary. Katie also was chair person and secretary of the John Knox Village Foundation Board of Trustees, and was an ambassador for the Foundation Board. She was womens leader at the Blue Ridge and Pleasant Heights Community of Christ Congregations. At the time of her death she was a member of the Woods Chapel Community of Christ Congregation. Katie is survived by her son, Daniel Howell; daughter, Karen Hall-Gist and husband Randal Gist; one granddaughter, Jessica (Howell) Oliver and husband Ben; two great grandchildren, Myles and Vivyan Oliver; and one sister, Nora Jackson. A memorial party will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO.
