Dr. Ronald W. Hubbard, 79, of Independence, MO entered into eternal rest on July 6th 2013, surrounded by loving family. A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11th 2013 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th Street Independence. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 12th at the chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Ronald was born February 3rd 1934 in Kansas City, MO to Dr. Willard T. and Shirley (Flaherty) Hubbard. He graduated from Raytown High School in 1952 as president of his class. He married his high school sweetheart Reba (Riggins) in 1956. Together they raised two boys. Ronald served as a Navy Corpsman Reservist. He attended William Jewell College and graduated with a Bachelors’ degree from Central Missouri State University. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1961. After serving a rotating internship and residency in general surgery, he served the community as a general surgeon until his retirement in 1999. Early in his practice years, he also had a family practice, just like his father. He was on the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Board of Trustees, served as President of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. He also served as President of the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB) Alumni Association. He taught for over 30 years at KCUMB as a Professor of Surgery. He was chair of the Department of Surgery at Park Lane Medical Center. His alma mater, specialty college, and state association all recognized his service by bestowing many honors and awards during his career. Dr. Hubbard mentored many students and residents and was admired for his talents. After retirement he worked in real estate sales with his son, Chris. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Raytown, where he and Reba helped develop the Cancer Support Group. Ronald was passionate in serving people and frequently played Santa for children in hospitals, special education programs, and through-out Greater Kansas City. He will be remembered as a gentleman of high moral character, as a dedicated Christian, and a humble physician. He was passionate in his service to his God, his family, his students, and his patients. Above all, he will be known as a man who loved and served his family. Ronald will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Reba, of the home; son, Dr. Kevin Hubbard and wife Roxanne of Lee’s Summit, MO; son, Chris Hubbard of Blue Springs, MO; grand-children, Brent Hubbard and wife Kelsey; and Nick Hubbard and wife Lana; great grand-children, Kyle and Laurali; uncle, Lee H. Hubbard of Raytown, MO; brother-in-law, John Attebery and wife Jackie of Lee’s Summit, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law R. W.
