Lester Hubbard, 87, passed away on January 9, 2017.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 13, from 1-2pm, with funeral service to follow at 2pm, both at Speaks Buckner Chapel, 300 Adams St. Burial will follow the service at Buckner Hill Cemetery.

Les was born on May 9, 1929, in Lathrop, MO, to Clayton and Minnie Bell Hubbard. As a teen, he worked as a truck driver for Remington Arms of Lake City before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served proudly during the Korean Conflict. After honorable discharge, he went to work for Lake City Ammunition Plant in the shipping & receiving department. There, he met Claribel Surfass, and they married on August 18, 1978.
Les was a master of making wood crafts, and enjoyed spending many afternoons mowing his beloved yard. He was quick with a joke, and he loved to go dancing on Saturday nights at the American Legion Post #499, where he was a member as well as Commander.
Lester is survived by his wife of 38 years, Claribel; daughters, Sherry Contrell (husband, Ed), Debbie White (partner, Lonnie Gibson), and Carol Lloyd (partner, Jerry Dryer); 3 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Madeline Wormsley, Helen Manley, and Mildred Adkinson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Billie; grandson, Paul Lloyd II; 2 sisters, Dorothy Cooper and Marjorie Grove; and 1 infant brother.
