Mary E. Hubick

November 6, 1912 — March 20, 2007

Mary E. Hubick, 94, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at The Groves in Independence. Mary was born November 6, 1912 in Chicago and was a great enthusiast of Illinois icons such as the Chicago Cubs and Abraham Lincoln. She also loved history. Mary attended Morton Junior College and graduated from the University of Chicago before becoming a teacher in nearby Norridge, IL for 40 years. After retiring in 1976, she moved from her home of 61 years in Cicero, IL to Eagle Rock, CA to be near her childhood and lifelong friend Zorka Beck. Mary and the Beck family were faithful and active members of the Eagle Rock Presbyterian Church. In 1990 she moved to the Heritage House in Independence to be close to her older sister Leona Ross, Marys only niece and her husband Patricia and Richard Hettrick, and Marys great nephews and their spouses Ric and Marcia, Scott and Betty, Brett and Sally Hettrick, and her great-great-nephews and nieces, Kristi, Katie, David, Chelsea, Brittany, Nickolas and Benjamin Hettrick. While in Independence she attended the First Presbyterian Church, volunteered for many years at Neighborhood Councils, and shared her love of history and life with her entire family. The family thanks the staff at The Groves for their tender, loving care of Mary in the past few years. Other survivors include Nick Main and Caleb Dennis, great-great-great nephews and nieces Casey and Jack Main, and Danny and Callie Dennis, all of Lees Summit, MO, and goddaughter Judy Judkins of Cape Coral, FL. She is preceded in death by great-nephew Dirk Hettrick, her sister Leona Ross and her oldest sibling Ray Hubick. At the request of Mary, there will be no formal service but a private family memorial service. Her final resting place will be near her brother and parents in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park, IL. Condolences for the family may be mailed to Ric and Marcia Hettrick, 156 NE Edgewater Dr., Lees Summit, MO 64064.
