Raymond Joseph Huffman, 85, of Independence, MO, passed away, Sunday, June 4, 2006 at his residence. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2006 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial with full military honors will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Ray was born March 6, 1921 in Rosedale, KS to Joseph Albert and Anna Marie (Ethington) Huffman and has been a lifelong area resident. He worked for Fairbanks-Morris Foundry from 1954 until he retired in 1983. Ray enjoyed fishing and spending time at his lake home at the Lake of the Ozarks, boating and most of all being with his family. He was a member of the Lazy Acres Baptist Church in Edwards, MO, where he was in charge of taking care of the church grounds and a life member of the Post 1000 VFW in Independence, MO. Ray was a decorated Veteran having served as an Anti-Aircraft Gun Crewman during WWII from 1943-45. He was married to Mary (Grayer) on November 8, 1941, she survives of the home. Other survivors include; a son, Joseph R. Huffman of Independence, MO; a daughter, Gale Obermeyer of Independence, MO; a sister, Darlene Kranz of Independence, MO; 5 grandchildren, Heather Dastrup, Clint Creek, Heath Creek, Kayla Huffman and Brandon Blancas and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Louise Huffman in 1923 and a grandson, Bradford Clement Creek in 1971.
