Myrtle Hannah Hughes, 92, of Independence, MO passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at the Rosewood Health Center. Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at The Groves on Monday, August 30, with a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. on Monday at Blue Springs Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Community of Christ Temple Fund. Mrs. Hughes had been a head cashier and bookkeeper at a supermarket, as well as owning and operating a restaurant. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church, where she was a church school director, teacher and church camp cook. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Rea Hughes; son, Donald Hughes; and daughter, Deloris Coyne. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Ruggles and husband Roger of Pekin, Il; two sons, Charles Hughes of Richardson, TX and Richard Hughes and wife Barbara of Blue Springs, MO; brother, Joe Pennington; sister, Ruby Smith; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.
