Emma Huling, 10 months, passed away Saturday, February 11, 1865. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Elmwood Cemetery Chapel. All public are welcome.
Emma was born on March 29, 1864 to Alonzo and Lucy (Lanfeare) Huling and baby sister of George Huling. She passed just shy of her 1st birthday. Over the past 154 years little Emma has been on quite the journey and so much is still unknown. The family originated in Illinois, relocated to Florida, then ended up calling Kansas City home. It is believed that the family brought Emma with them to each location.
She passed in 1865 yet Elmwood Cemetery did not have their first burial until 1872 so it is unknown where she was between those years. She was placed in Elmwood Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum until her brother passed in 1908. George designed and set aside the funds to erect the family mausoleum and requested his family members be laid to rest with him. She was entombed with him and her parents in 1909.
At the beginning of March 2019, 110 years after being placed with her family, Emma was taken from her place of rest and put outside of her mausoleum. After a thorough investigation, the conclusion was made of who she is and where she is supposed to be. None of this should have ever happened to her, but many people have come together to make things right. We hope to learn more about Emma as time goes on so please feel free to leave any new information on the condolence page.
Elmwood Cemetery is run by volunteers and has limited funds for upkeep of the cemetery. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
