Richard Carl Humm of Sugar Creek, MO passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn. Richard is survived by; his 10 children, Marian (John) Maglich, Andy Humm, Theresa (Nik) Hiremath, Beth (Macy) Way, Jim (Angie) Humm, Mike (Becky) Humm, Carla (Andy Walleck) Humm, Tim Humm, TJ Humm and Ben (Candace) Humm; he is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Estes and Jane Whitenack.
Richard grew up in Hermann Missouri. After high school, he spent 4 years in the US Navy aboard The USS Oklahoma City, stationed near Japan. There he trained as a Journalist II and used these skills for his career as a typesetter and linotype operator.
As a member of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church, Richard participated in Men’s Club activities and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a man of faith, a provider for his large family and a jack-of-all trades who could build and repair all sorts of things. Over the years, Richard enjoyed bowling, fireworks, chasing sirens, his Lionell train set up, building jigsaw puzzles, taking car rides to the Missouri River, playing canasta and hearts with his kids, annual road trips to Colorado Springs and penny slot machines at “the boats“.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 10113 E Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64053. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time Tuesday at the church. Pallbearers will be Richards six sons: Andy, Jim, Mike, Tim, TJ and Ben.
