Martha Mary Hunsucker (Mary) was born on January 24, 1928, in Keota, Oklahoma to William W. and Ethel (King) Mathis; one of twelve children. Mary was a fighter from the beginning, being born at a weight of one and a half pounds. This fighting spirit continued to grow throughout life. She married James T. Hunsucker and together raised two sons. During her working years, Mary was a nurse’s aide, and retired from this position from Dr. Ken Thompson’s office. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
In her free time, Mary was known as an avid bowler, and shared her love of the game with her family and friends, even belonging to a local league until she could no longer be active in the sport at the age of 90. Not only did she love to bowl, but she could be found with a fishing rod in hand wherever her family ventured. Mary also had a passion for gardening, though it paled in comparison to her passion for Jeopardy and the Kansas City Royals. Mary welcomed all visitors to her house, so long as they did not talk during Jeopardy or the game. If someone did talk during these events, it had to be about the games.
Mary is survived by her son, James David Hunsucker; granddaughters, Deanna Chamberlain and Lisa Mann; grandson, James David Hunsucker, Jr; 9 great grandkids; and 17 great-great grandkids.. She is preceded in death by husband, James T. Hunsucker; sons, Joseph Daniel Hunsucker and Dickey Mathis; and granddaughter, Daina Marie Hunsucker; Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com (Arrangements: Carson-Speaks Chapel (816) 252-7900)
