Charles Sumner Hunt

Charles "Charlie� Sumner Hunt, 75, of Independence, MO died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 peacefully at home. Services will be 10 am, Wed., Sept. 28, 2005 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Community Blood Bank, 4040 Main, K.C., MO 64111 or Regional Care Hospice, 18 Westwoods Drive, Liberty, MO 64068. Charlie was born April 1, 1930 in Tyron, Oklahoma, the son of Charles Webster and Cora May (Hunnicutt) Hunt. He grew up in Oklahoma, graduated from Tyron High School and attended Friends University in Wichita, KS. Mr. Hunt was a maintenance painter for 28 years at the Kansas City Club. He joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War, was a member of VFW Post #1000 and a member of the Christ United Methodist Church. He was also very active for many years in Westport Masonic Lodge, Ararat Shrine, Provost Club and Tribesman Club. He served for many years as a Boy Scout leader for Troop #226, Honorary Warrior in the tribe of Mic-O-Say and a leader of the Independence Chapter, Order of DeMolay. Charlie married Dixie Lee Elliott on May 19, 1956 in Kansas City, MO. They had two children, Gary Ray Hunt and Terri Lynn (Hunt) Williams. He was preceded in death by his sister Ruth (Hunt) Moore and her husband C.L. Moore; brother Ivan Hunt; sister-in-law Helen Hunt and brothers-in-law Oscar Larson, Jr. and S.E. Jackson. Charlie is survived by his wife Dixie Lee (Elliott) Hunt; his children Gary Hunt, Santa Barbara, CA; Terri (Hunt) & David Williams, Columbia, MO; granddaughters Jennifer Williams and Amy Williams, both of Columbia, MO; brother Emery Hunt, Wichita, KS; sisters Iva May (Hunt) Larson, Manhattan, KS; Mary Ellen (Hunt) Cook and husband Paul, Craig, CO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gloria Hunt, Manhattan, KS; Lois Jackson, Conroe, TX; Dena Evans, Brookfield, MO; Benjamin & Jane Elliott, Macon, MO; Kenneth Elliott, Gladstone, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
