Barbara Dean Huntsucker

December 9, 1929 — February 11, 2020

Barbara Dean Huntsucker, 90, passed away on February 11, 2020, in Oak Grove, Missouri.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, from 12:30-1pm, with funeral service to follow at 1pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. She will be laid to rest in New Salem Cemetery.

Barbara was born on December 9, 1929, in Mindenmines, MO, the daughter of William Nelson and Anna Belle Devore Nelson. She attended Northeast High School and worked briefly for BMA. She married Lewis Huntsucker, Jr. on February 12, 1948, and to this union were born three children.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church where she was involved in their women’s groups, and later at East Side Baptist Church where she was part of their “Classics” Sunday School group. She and Lewis made many memories by camping near Pomme de Terre, Stockton Lake, and Bull Shoals. Although she did not particularly enjoy the pastime of fishing, she did delight in catching more fish than Lewis! They would often spend the winter months in Texas and Florida, but Barbara was always eager to come back to dote on grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a talented seamstress and gardener who loved to be with family and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Lewis Huntsucker, Jr.; her parents, William and Anna Belle Nelson; and her three brothers, Clarence Devore, William Nelson, and Merle Nelson.

She is survived by her three children: Connie Hailey (husband Mel) of San Antonio, TX, Clifford Huntsucker (wife Jeanette) of Blue Springs, MO, and Lewis Huntsucker III of Independence, MO; three grandchildren: Brandon Baker, Bradley Baker, and Lucas Huntsucker; nine great-grandchildren, Camryn Huntsucker, Emilie Huntsucker, Austin Baker, Taylor Baker, Nila Baker, Zoe Baker, Ronan Baker, James Page, and Lucas R. Huntsucker; and many extended family and dear friends.
