Lewis James Huntsucker, Jr., 89, Independence, MO passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013 surrounded by family.
Lewis was born August 29, 1924 in Atherton, MO the son of Lewis James and Minnie Lee (Herron) Huntsucker, Sr. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in WWII. Lewis retired as Captain in 1983 from the Independence Missouri Fire Department. He was a longtime member of Six Mile Baptist Church and recently attended Eastside Baptist Church. Lewis enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping with the family.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Huntsucker of 65 years; daughter, Connie Baker; sons, Clifford Huntsucker and wife Jeanette, and Louie Huntsucker; grandchildren, Brandon Baker and wife Elizabeth, Brad Baker and wife Kristi, and Lucas Huntsucker and wife Angel; great grandchildren, Camryn and Emilie Huntsucker, Austin, Taylor, Nila, Zoe and Ronan Baker; sisters, Minnie Firkins, Inez Simpson and Betty Robertson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and family. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin, Elwood, Carl, Tom, Harvey, and David; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice.
