Gary Hurla, 72, of Independence, MO died January 8, 2019. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service on Sunday, January 13, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Gary was born June 20, 1946 at St. Margaret Hospital in KC, KS. He went to De La Salle High School and he graduated in 1964. After graduating, he joined the Air Force and was medically discharged in 1965. After his discharge, he worked for KW Dart, General Motors Leads Plant as a painter and EMT/paramedic/Dispatcher. His hobbies include metal detecting, collecting coins and baseball. He is survived by his wife, Laurie Hurla; children, Shannon Sickles (Steve) and their children Scott, Stevon, Sam and Sarah Sickles, Jason Hurla (Katie) and their son, Cullen Hurla; stepson, Matthew Williams (Tina); sister, Lois Griffin (Craig Johnson); brother, Paul Hurla; and nephew Shae Hurla.
