Sarah Margaret (Williams) Hurla, age 77, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Monday, May 29th, 2023 surrounded by her family. Sarah’s courageous battle against Breast Cancer and Metastatic Breast Cancer lasted ten years and eleven months until she decided to change her course and show Cancer who was really in charge.
Sarah was born in California, Missouri on June 2nd, 1945. She was born to Cecil Earl Raymond and Marie “Margaret” (Wilhelm) Williams. The family moved to Independence, Missouri when Sarah was two years old. Sarah was a 1963 graduate of William Chrisman High School. She worked for the K-Mart Corporation for thirty-seven and a half years. She finally retired in June 2012, after she was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer. During retirement, Sarah loved to spend time traveling with family, as well as reading, sewing, crafting, and spoiling her grandkids and her beloved dog, Nick. Sarah was loved and known by many as ‘Grandma Sarah.’
Sarah is survived by Daughter, Shannon (Steven) Sickles and Son, Jason (Kendra) Hurla. Grandchildren, Scott (Michela) Sickles, Stevon Sickles, Samuel Sickles, Sarah Sickles, and Cullen Hurla. Great-Grandchildren, Justin Sickles and coming November 2023, Baby Fox-Sickles. Brother, Bob (John) Williams, and sister-inlaw Beverly Williams as well as many nieces, nephews, and “adopted” grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Parents, Cecil (1991) and Margaret (2004) Williams, and Brother, Raymond Clark Williams (2013).
Services will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. The Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The Funeral will be Thursday, June 8th at 10:00 am with interment to follow at Mt Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center.
