Floyd Hurley

Floyd Hurley, 87, of Independence, MO, passed away at home Wednesday, August 6, 2014 surrounded by loved ones.

Floyd was born on March 11, 1927, in Jefferson City, MO, the son of John and Pearl Hurley. He met the love of his life, Joyce Diane Kunkle, and they married on March 21, 1947. Floyd held his one and only job for 50 years, retiring from Wilcox Electric. He enjoyed being at his cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks, bird watching, gardening, and most of all, surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, wonderful father, and exceptional Pop.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce; daughters Marlena Ruth Sackewitz (Steve Fabac) and Victoria Elizabeth Stumpenhaus (Gary), all of Independence, MO; four grandchildren, Heather Sackewitz Billingsley, Shannon Sackewitz (Jackie), Chris Stumpenhaus, and Justin (Ashley) Stumpenhaus, Grain Valley, MO; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Andrew Billingsley, Nicollette Wurtz, Avery, Paige and Logan Stumpenhaus, and Alex Muro; three great-great grandchildren, Gracelyn Moore, Macey and Nicholas Muro. He is also survived by sisters, Bonnie Hurley Kunkle and Louise Hurley Yotz, step-sister, Peggy Kunkle Trussell and many nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his father and mother, step-mother, Ruth Hurley, sisters, Ruth Hurley Roberts, Sally Hurley, brothers-in-law, Benjamin Kunkle and Silas Trussell, and step-sister, Burgoyne Kunkle Meek. The family would like to thank his doctors and nurses at Centerpoint Medical Center and John Knox Hospice nurses for his excellent care.

Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery.
