John R. “Papa John” Hutsell, 64, Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at his home.
A gathering to celebrate John’s life will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2012 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO. 64052.
John was born February 20, 1948 in Kansas City, MO the son of Owen and Leola Hutsell. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving numerous military awards and decorations, and had cancer due to Agent Orange. John worked in construction. John was a devoted Christian, an ordained minister serving in the Calvary Sound Church and also for many years in intentional anonymity. John enjoyed playing the harmonica and guitar and listening to Blue’s music. He spent many hours riding and rebuilding Harley Davidson Motorcycles and being outdoors. John was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 317.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Hutsell in 2010 and his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife Vicki of 33 years; son, Brandine Hutsell and wife Lena; daughters Nichole Matney and fiancé, Charlie, and Tressa Matney-Lynch and husband Gary; grandchildren Nicholas, Haylie and Tori Nicole; and his life-long friend, Bart Reedy.
