Francis "Bert" Ivy

September 5, 1935 — March 29, 2020

Francis “Bert” Ivy, 84, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 3, at 11:30 a.m., at Mound Grove Cemetery. In his honor, the family suggests contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Heart of America Chapter.

Bert was born on September 5, 1935, in Sanderson. Texas, the son of Alton Ivy and Vanie Cornelius Ivy. He graduated from Sanderson High School and later followed the wheat harvest to Kansas. For a short period of time, he also served in the US Marines Reserves. He then moved to the Kansas City area, where he married Arlene “Dolly” Ivy on March 9, 1957. To this union were born three children. His professional career spanned nearly 30 years at Hallmark Cards as a technical specialist, a section manager, and ultimately an injection mold engineer, all roles in the plastics department. He retired on December 30, 1999.

Bert was a man who kept active, and every morning, he would start the day with a cup of coffee in his favorite mug. He enjoyed pastimes like fishing, yardwork, gardening, and cheering on his grandchildren at their sports games. He loved listening to old country music and getting the family together for special events and holidays. Everyone always looked forward to his specialty: smoked ham. Although a Texan at heart, nothing could come between him and his Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals.

His survivors include a son, Michael G. Ivy; two daughters, Lisa A. Keltner and Debra Kay Klopfenstine (husband Gary); seven beloved grandchildren, Andrea Klopfenstine, Joseph “Cale” Ivy, Aaron Klopfenstine, Ashley Bolten, Spencer Keltner, Amber Keltner, and Brandy Keltner; five adored great-grandchildren, Madison, Caid, MaKeena and Carter Bolten, and Avery Ivy; and his sister, Vanna L. Burnett (husband Raymond).

He was preceded in death by his wife and sweetheart of 58 years, Dolly Ivy; and his parents, Alton and Vanie Ivy.
