Harry Eugene “Gene” Ivy, 86 of Independence, MO passed away, Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Ashton Court Care and Rehabilitation Center in Liberty, MO. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the chapel. Gene was born February 6, 1927 in Weston, MO to Charles R. and Nancy K. (Bailey) Ivy. He worked at Missouri Gas Energy for over 35 years until he retired as a superintendent in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and most of all spending time with his family. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII. He attended Holt United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Retired Employees Association at MGE. He was married to Maybelle (Frazee) on August 11, 1952; she preceded him in death in April of 1996. Survivors include; a son, Ray Gene Ivy and his wife Kandi of Independence, MO; a step daughter, Shirley White and her husband Bruce of Chilhowee, MO; 2 grandchildren, Joseph Ivy and his wife Crystal and Melinda Shaffer and her husband John; 8 step grandchildren; great grandsons, Jonathan, Isaac and Noah Shaffer; numerous step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by 15 siblings 2 step grandchildren, James Braden and Lola Dilks.
