Velma M. Jacobsen

Velma Moreen Jacobsen, 96, of Lee�s Summit, MO, passed away, Thursday, June 10, 2004 at John Knox Care Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2004 at the Community of Christ Church 1101 N.E. Independence Ave. Lee�s Summit, MO 64086-5504. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Donations may be made to John Knox Care Center. Velma was born September 24, 1907 in Cameron, MO to Jake and Minnie (Swensen) Andes. She and her husband, Lawrence owned and operated the Dayton Hotel in Lee�s Summit. She was a member of the Lee�s Summit Business and Professional Women�s Club where she was Women of the Year, and the Laurel Club, where she served as president. She was very active in the Community of Christ in Independence and Lee�s Summit where she worked at youth camps and volunteered for various fund raising activities. She was married to Lawrence C. Jones who died in 1968. She later married Morris Jacobsen in 1976 who also precedes her in death. Survivors include; a son Giles A. Jones and his wife Brenda of Garden City, MO; a foster son, Gerald L. Garfield of Mesquite, TX; a brother Gordon Andes and his wife Vlora of Independence, MO; 2 grandsons, Christopher A. Jones of Blue Springs, MO and Brett A. Jones of Harrisonville, MO and 5 great grandchildren.
