James David Carpenter, fondly known as Jim, passed away on November 1, 2024, in Independence, Missouri, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on August 8, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, Jim lived a life rich with music, love, and laughter. He was a vibrant soul whose passion for life resonated with everyone he met.
Many will remember Jim for his extraordinary career as a professional drummer, where he had the honor of performing alongside music legends such as Johnny Paycheck, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jack Green, to name just a few. His talent and dedication to music were evident as he rhythmically navigated the beats that brought joy to countless audiences. Later in life, his love for the outdoors led him to work as a landscaper for the Independence Center, where he continued to share his warmth and creativity with the community.
Jim graduated from Van Horn High School, a reflection of his belief in the importance of education and personal growth. His spirit was imbued with a sense of fun and a loving nature that touched the lives of his friends and family. He would often express delight in simple pleasures, whether spending time at the lake, camping, fishing, or simply enjoying the company of his dogs and cats. His musical inclinations extended beyond drumming, as he had the ability to play almost any instrument, much to the admiration of those around him. One could reliably find him humming tunes of Elvis, a testament to his lifelong passion for music.
His service in the Army instilled in him a strong sense of duty and camaraderie, adding another layer to his rich tapestry of experiences and values. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and the bonds he created with his family were something truly special. His legacy will live on through them, as they carry forward the love and joy he shared so freely.
Jim now joins his parents and his son in eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of music, laughter, and cherished memories. His impact on those who loved him will forever inspire, reminding us of the beauty found in connections, shared moments, and the rhythms of life itself. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Glenda Carpenter; children, Brian Carpenter, Elizabeth (Richard Ewing) Bromley, Rebecca Mustain, Lisa (Richard Ballard) Mustain, Tammie (Curtis) Hansen, Parry (Brandie) Evilsizer; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; extended family and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hornor David and Jessie Marie (Miller) Carpenter.
A Memorial Graveside service will take place at 1pm, Thursday, November 14th at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, 20109 Bus, MO-13, Higginsville, MO 64037
