Ellen Tippins James, 102, of Lexington, KY formerly of Independence, MO passed away Friday, January 28, 2005. Services will be 2 pm Thursday, February 3rd at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave; with interment in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 pm until service time. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Sayre Christian Village Nursing Home, 3840 Camelot Dr. Lexington, KY 40517. Mrs. James was born in Spondon, England April 7, 1902, and came to America with her family in 1913. She was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Stevens Tippins. Mrs. James was an employee of the Bell Telephone System for approximately 50 years. She resided on Hedges Ave. in Independence, MO from the early 1920�s until moving to Kentucky to be with her son in 1989. She and her husband were former members of Fairmount Christian Church. Mrs. James was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude Goodner James; and ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her only son, Claude Samuel James and wife Frances of Nicholasville, KY; grandchildren, Karen (Arlie) Mullins of Lexington, KY, Melissa (Larry) Fordham of Powell, TN, and Jon Samuel (Renee) James of Nicholasville, KY; great grandchildren, Nickolas and Heather Mullins of Lexington, KY, Joshua Fordham of Milliken, CO, and Tyler Fordham of Powell, TN; nieces and nephews, Marguerite Zumwalt, Mary Ann Kollenbach and Ruth Tucker, all from the Kansas City area; Ida Caroline Bell of Davenport, IA, Muriel Sommer of St. Louis, MO, and Sheila and Tom Tippins.
