Larry Wayne James, 64, Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Friday, August 8, 2014.
Larry was born July 29, 1950 in Vian, OK the son of Elmer Charles and Emma Faye (Rich) James. He was very active throughout his life, always coming up with new ideas and ways of helping people. For a majority of Larry’s life he owned and operated James Medical and Design. Larry also served as Cass County Coroner from 1983-1986, volunteered for the Harrisonville Fire Department, Reserve Officer for Cass County Sheriff’s Department and Lake Lotawana and was a rescue diver. Larry also owned and operated a True Value Hardware Store and served as Trustee for the Cass County Medical Center in Harrisonville before moving to Lee’s Summit. He currently served on the board of Lee’s Summit Safety Community. Larry learned to play the guitar in the last 10 years and enjoyed playing blues music. Most of all Larry enjoyed his family and loved being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kathy James of 43 years; daughter, Jennifer Davis and husband Mitchell; son Erick Wayne James and wife Lyndsay; grandchildren, Mikayla Faye Norman, Madelyn Kathleen Davis, and Avery Marie James; brothers, Geary James and wife Larue, Steve James and wife Renee; sister-in-laws, Mildred James and Shirley James; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Larry was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melissa Faye James; brothers, Charles and Robert “Perry” James; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO 64055. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
