James Vernon Titus passed away on September 15, 2024 at the age of 93.
James was born on January 1, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to William and Della (Ray) Titus.
James was a man of many hats—an Army veteran who proudly served his country, a dedicated employee of Ford Motor Company from which he retired with honor, and above all, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He and his beloved wife, Joyce, were married on June 8, 1966, and together they created a family that was the heart of James’s life.
James loved spending time with family and friends, going on scenic drives with his wife, taking on home improvement projects or simply enjoying a meal together. After retirement, James found a new passion in playing slot machines at the casinos, and his visits there were filled with the same excitement and charm that he brought to every aspect of his life.
His fun-loving and ornery spirit was a defining trait. James had an extraordinary gift for making friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger he wouldn’t strike up a conversation with, always ready to share or listen to a story, a laugh, or offer a kind word. His warmth and outgoing nature endeared him to many, and his presence was a true gift to those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
James is survived by his daughters, Heidi Cassaidy (Jeff) and Michele Haynes; grandchildren, Dakota and Austin Haynes; and great grandchildren, Jason and Paige Haynes.
James is now reunited with his beloved wife of 58 years, Joyce Titus, and we take comfort in knowing they are together once more. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Ellen Tumlinson, William Titus, Lee Titus, Ruby Bailey, and Doris Lyon.
As we honor James’s life, we invite those who knew and loved him to join us in remembrance. A visitation will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Carson-Speaks Chapel, located at 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO. This will be followed by a funeral service starting at 10:00 AM in the same chapel. James will then be laid to rest at Mount Washington Forever Cemetery, 614 S Brookside Ave, Independence, MO immediately following.
James will forever hold a place in our hearts, guiding us with memories of warmth, joy, and unwavering love. Rest in peace, dear James; your journey continues in the hearts of all you touched.
