Reuben L. Jamison, a man of faith and love, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2023. He was 93. Reuben was born on November 10, 1929, in Lawrenceburg, KY to Reuben and Katherine (Hanks) Jamerson.
At a young age, Reuben was blessed to meet and marry his best friend, Ruby Hyatt. They spent over 71 years creating a life together until her passing on January 25, 2022. Reuben proudly served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 and that same year, he and Ruby moved to Independence, Missouri.
Reuben had a very long, successful, and happy career as a Hardware Salesman, first for Belknap Hardware and then for Blish-Mize Co. He enjoyed the friendships he had with many hardware store owners in Kansas and Missouri. After retirement, Reuben and Ruby enjoyed their yearly retreat to Daytona Beach, Florida. There they would reunite with friends they had met from all over the United States to hibernate during the cold season. He also stayed active volunteering as a van driver for Shriner’s Hospital, taking children from Kansas City to St. Louis and as a volunteer greeter for Scottish Rite Childhood Language Disorders Clinic.
His love for people extended to serving at church as an usher and greeter, welcoming families and offering candy to those coming through the door. The children affectionately called him the “Candy Man”. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Reuben is survived by his beloved daughters, Brenda Paul (Tom) and Kathy Allen (Sammy); 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Louise Drury. Reuben was preceded in death by his parents and his adored wife, Ruby.
A visitation will be held from 1-2pm on Thursday, January 12th with a service following at 2pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church in memory of Reuben.
