Janet Kay Barnhard

Janet Kay Barnhard, known by most as Frog, age 81, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on October 2, 2024 in Blue Springs, Missouri. She was born on October 17, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Janet graduated from Fort Osage High School, where she so enjoyed being a Varsity Cheerleader. She dedicated 62 memorable years of marriage to her husband & best friend, Bill (Barney) Barnhard. Frog and Barney shared a son, Scott. She spent most of her life in Independence, Missouri, and 6 years with a cherished chapter in Mobile, Alabama.

Throughout her career, Janet worked as a School Bus Driver and an Executive Administrative Secretary, touching the lives of many. With her spunky personality & bold laughter, her presence was always known when you walked into a room. She was an active member of the Community of Christ Church, where she found joy and fellowship.

Janet is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy; father, Nenneth; Second Father, Jasper; brothers Bill and John; brothers-in-law, Mike and Ed; sister-in-law Cheryl; two nieces, Alesia and Robin; and two nephews, Patrick and Brandon.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Barnhard; son Scott Barnhard and his wife Carol; grandchildren Trent (Erin), Taylor (Garrison), and Tanner (Tacara); and great-grandson Jackson. Janet is also survived by her sisters Judy, Betty, Marsha (Gregg), and Phyliss; brothers-in-law David (Joyce) and Dwight (Carolyn); sister-in-law Marilou; nieces Stephanie, Kristie, Amy, Katie, Bonnie, Kara, Barbara, Brenda, Beth Ann and Sonia; nephews Jeff, Brent, Kirk, and Matt; along with many cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Janet was an avid sports fan. She was a loyal Mizzou fan, and loved watching both the KC Chiefs & Royals. Janet attended many games. She had a passion for playing golf and tennis, traveling, and most importantly, spending time with her family, friends, and church community. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 3rd at Village Heights Community of Christ in Independence, Missouri.
