Don Lee Jeffers, 84, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital in Lee's Summit, MO. Don was born on July 26, 1931 in Joplin, Missouri. After graduating from Neosho High School he served in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Don worked in the Body Shop at the General Motors Leeds Assembly plant for 31 years, retiring in 1987. Since retiring he enjoyed camping with his many friends, spending time with the family he loved, watching the KC Royals, and spoiling his cat, Gilmore. Don was a long time resident of Independence. Surviving him is his loving wife of 61 years, Ellen Jeffers of the home, a sister, Christine Hunt of Ottawa, KS, a brother Ted Jeffers of Joplin, MO, 3 sons, Larry Jeffers (Bobbe) of Lee's Summit, MO, Rick Jeffers (Betsy) of Yorkville, IL, Kenny Jeffers of Independence, MO, a daughter, Mylinda Huddleston (Don) of Kansas City, MO, as well as 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. His extended family and great number of friends also were held close in his heart. Mr. Jeffers was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Grace Jeffers, his brothers, Glen, Jack, and Joe Jeffers, and a grandson, Justin.
