Victoria Jensen (née Hernandez), a former resident of Independence and Blue Springs, MO and more recently of Millbrook, NY, died May 8, 2017. She was 72 years old.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 S Lee's Summit Road, Independence, MO with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. A Memorial Mass for family and friends will be at 3pm on Saturday, May 27, 2017 in Metuchen, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to First Book, a nonprofit that provides books and learning materials to children in need, at www.firstbook.org. Victoria was born on August 27, 1944 in Pasay City, Manila, Philippines, the daughter of Marcelino Hernandez, Sr. and Generosa Divinagracia Hernandez. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila with a bachelor's degree in Philosophy in 1965. Victoria immigrated to the United States in 1968, marrying George Jensen in Lexington, MO in 1971; the couple enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage, until his death in 2011. Victoria earned a master's degree in Speech Pathology from Central Missouri State University and worked as a devoted speech therapist in the Kansas City Public School District for many years before retiring in 2011. During her time in Independence, she was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was very involved in the school activities of her daughters at Holy Family School and William Chrisman High School, as well as music lessons at Music/Arts Institute. She will be remembered for her warmth, strength, commitment to education, and dedication to her family and friends. Victoria is survived by two daughters, Clarice Jensen and Christina Jensen and husband Matthew Agoglia, all of Beacon, NY; her sister Paz Hernandez Diaz and husband Bayani of Manila, Philippines; sister Isabelita Hernandez of Fishkill, NY; brother Marcelino Hernandez, Jr. and wife Rena of Penrith, NSW, Australia; sister-in-law Yolanda Hernandez of Manila, Philippines; brother-in-law Donald Billings of Tampa, FL; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, and brother Meneleo Hernandez, Sr.
