Jerry Newton Pratt, a beloved member of the community, passed away on June 9, 2024, in Blue Springs, Missouri. He was born on May 2, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa to Rollo and Vada (Parmenter) Pratt.
Jerry led a remarkable life filled with diverse experiences and meaningful connections. After graduating from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa, he continued his education at Park College and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from CMSU.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Air Force for many years. He was stationed in Germany for 4 years and France for 3 years. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as an accountant for Sprint Phone Company. Beyond his professional commitments, Jerry was deeply involved in the community as both a pastor and elder at the Community of Christ Church. His compassionate nature shone through during his years as a chaplain at Centerpoint Hospital as well.
In addition to his professional and community contributions, Jerry had a wide range of interests that brought him joy. He found fulfillment in genealogy, singing, classical music, traveling, learning foreign languages, and creative writing. Known for his gregarious personality and sharp intellect, Jerry never hesitated to strike up conversations with strangers and leave a lasting impression on all he met.
One of Jerry's proudest accomplishments was learning to fly at the age of 60 and obtaining his pilot's license—an achievement that showcased his adventurous spirit and determination.
Jerry will be dearly missed by his surviving family members and friends. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Noelle Blosser (Kelly); son, Russell Pratt (Susan); grandchildren, Janelle Blosser (Michael), Carrie Blosser (Jeff), David Blosser (Malia), Sean Pratt and Ryan Pratt (Lindsay); great-grandchildren, Quinn, Autumn and Ivy; sister, Nancy Breazille; brother, Larry Pratt and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services to honor Jerry's life will take place at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri, on June 24, 2024. A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM. The final tribute will be the Burial at Mound Grove Cemetery at 11:30 AM.Monday, June 24, 2024
