Clifford “Jody” Leroy Jewell of Independence, MO, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018.
Memorial services will begin at 2 pm, Thursday June 21 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence; inurnment with Full Military Honors will follow at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin at 1 pm before the service at the chapel.
He was the oldest child born to Hershel and Irene Jewell on April 21, 1938 in Kansas City, MO. His family lived his entire life in the Fairmont area of Independence where Jody graduated from Van Horn High School in 1957. Jody was enlisted in United States Navy in 1958 and served on the USS Destroyer, Paricutin in the Pacific. Following his time in the Navy he was honorably discharged in 1962. He married Jackie Brewer in 1974 and on May 25, 2018 they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.
Following his discharge from the Navy Clifford “Jody” began working at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in 1961. He worked in many divisions as a firefighter, chemical mixer and in the tool and die department before retiring in 1993. After several years of retirement he returned to Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for another twelve years as a security officer. As a sports enthusiast Jody joined the Kansas City Royals as a security officer. This permitted him to be involved with Royals first hand. He also followed the Kansas City Chiefs, going with his son, Jeff to San Diego each fall to watch the Chiefs/Chargers game. Jody was a Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge 614.
Jody was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Irene Jewell. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jackie Jewell of the home, son Jeff Jewell and wife Sandra, daughter, Angela Hunt and husband Larry, step-son Larry McKee and wife Robin, step-daughter Sharee Davis and step-daughter Kerri Harness and husband Ron; Brother, David Jewell and Sister, Judy Allen and husband Roger. Grandchildren Zachary William Jewell, Brianne Marie Jewell, Alek Jeffery Jewell, Christopher Andrew Jewell, and great-grandchildren Jackson and Beckett Jewell and Wyatt Stamper. Along with eight other grandchildren and fifteen step-grandchildren.
