Mrs. Joan Marie Slaght, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on June 4, 2024, in Blue Springs, Missouri. She was born on January 3, 1930, in Carson, Iowa.
Joan was a selfless, caring person devoted to family. She applied her special gifts and talents in many ways, always doing whatever needed to be done through community service and as an educator.
Her greatest joy and gift of the last half of her life was providing the extra support and attention needed to her first granddaughter Jodee for more than 40 years.
A lifelong member of the Community of Christ church, she served in many leadership positions in the many congregations where she was a member, from Iowa to Michigan and Independence, Missouri since 1967.
Born on a family farm, she had a passion for nature, the outdoors and an active lifestyle. She was always on the move, taking daily walks and bicycle rides around the neighborhood with husband Lloyd, granddaughter Jodee, and other family members and friends who visited. She loved to water ski and snow ski with her family, as well as travel and take cruises to new destinations such as Spain, Japan, Australia, Canada, Panama, and Mexico.
