Joanne Cable

April 30, 1931 — July 17, 2024

Lee's Summit, Missouri

When the news of Joanne Cable’s passing reached her friends and family, their collective responses were resounding. They lovingly described her as a “class act,” “strong and beautiful,” and “an example of goodness and generosity.” Joanne lived a life embodying these attributes, among many more. Sadly, her journey ended gracefully and peacefully, just as she lived, on July 17, 2024

She was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, and raised as a Southern woman. Joanne maintained these characteristics throughout her life, which included traits of politeness, hospitality, and a commitment to uplifting others.

She shared a wonderful 72-year marriage to Gene Cable, and together they raised their cherished children, Steve and Cindy. Joanne helped create a happy, active home while building a successful automobile business. Her dedication extended beyond her family, as she was actively involved in multiple organizations as a volunteer, fostering lifelong friendships and connections along the way.

Her talents and contributions spanned the Kansas City Metro area, with a specific focus on education and helping children. Her impact is felt through the many scholarships she established, positively affecting recipients from high school to medical school. Her profound generosity and legacy will continue for many years within the future generations of our city.

Like all those deeply loved by many, Joanne will be missed by many including; son Steve Cable (Renee), daughter Cindy Cavanah (Marty), grandchildren Tom Cable, Anne Bencker (Brian), David Cavanah, Katie Stevens (Brad), 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. However, she will forever live on in the hearts of her family.

Private burial was held in Mt. Washington Cemetery and there will be a memorial celebration of her life to be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2024 with a reception to to follow at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Pleasant St., Independence, MO 64050.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to the Metropolitan Community College Foundation to support student scholarships for the MCC Longview Automotive Department. Memorials may be sent to the MCC Foundation, 3200 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64111.
