John Lofty “Jack” Dunn III of Independence, Missouri, passed away at his residence on Thursday, November 9, 2023. He was 86 years old. Jack was born on March 14, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri, the child of John L. II and Agnes Dunn. He was one of three siblings; Donna, Martha, and John. After graduating from East High School in 1955, he married his wife of 65 years, Barbara Ann Dunn. Jack served in the US Army as a private before going onto a successful career in Salesand Logistics for Georgia Pacific, eventually retiring in 1998. Jack and Barbara moved to Independence, MO. in 1972 where they raised their four children. Jack cherished his family and faith above all things. He enjoyed music, classic cars, dogs, fireworks, royals, chiefs, and good conversation over a meal with those fortunate to share one with him. Jack is survived by his wife Barbara Dunn, and his children; Janet (Brian) Middleton, Connie (Raymond) Greco, Brian (Kim) Dunn, Jarrett (Melissa) Dunn, five grandchildren (Brianna, Zack, Owen, Myla, Quinn) and five great-grandchildren (Bridget, Reese, Henry, McKenzie, Maverick), his bother in-law Patrick O’Connell, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Martha Hollowell, Donna Stuempel, James and Evon O’Connell, Leroy O’Connell, and his grandson Alex Cipolla.
A funeral mass in memory of John L. Dunn III will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 11 AM at St. Marks Catholic Church in Independence, MO. A rosary will be said at 10:30 AM prior to the mass. Upon conclusion of the mass, he will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Raytown, MO.
In lieu of flowers contribution can be made in his honor to Crossroads Hospice and Palliative care; 14310 East 42nd Street STE. 600 Independence, MO. 64055.
