John Paul Willis, affectionately known as Paul, departed this world unexpectedly on December 18, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on November 27, 1958, in Athens, Greece, his journey was marked by an unwavering commitment to excellence and a passion for experiences that invigorated his spirit.

Paul’s early academic pursuits led him to graduate from Truman High School, class of 1977, after which he continued onto the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he earned a B.S. in Economics. It was clear from a young age that his prodigious work ethic would propel him to remarkable heights—a gift he carried throughout his career. As a microeconomist for the Federal Reserve in Kansas City and later as Assistant Vice President of Broker Compliance at Axis Insurance, he demonstrated a rare blend of analytical prowess and insightful leadership, earning respect and admiration from colleagues and peers alike.

Beyond the realm of economics, Paul found joy and solace in a myriad of hobbies. He was deeply enamored with action movies, where the thrill of adventure transported him far beyond the confines of daily life. His obsession with import cars, particularly the likes of Saab and BMW, reflected both a love for engineering marvels and a desire for performance, much akin to the vibrant energy he embraced in all endeavors. A connoisseur of music, he cherished the calming melodies of James Taylor, the improvisational splendor of jazz, and the expressive narratives of musical theater. A testament to his multifaceted talent, Paul proudly claimed many honors both at work and in his hobbies, including the esteemed SILA Gavel Award and numerous national accolades as a tap-dancing member of the Tap-Dogs with the Stepping Out Dance Academy.

Paul’s legacy is further enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his son, Zachary Willis; daughters, Mallory and Madison; mother, Joyce Wandeen (Hirst) Willis; sister, Joy Burke; and nieces, Lesley Redding and Carley Grant. Though his beloved father, John Lewis Willis, have passed, their influence undoubtedly shaped the man Paul became.

As we gather to celebrate the life of John Paul Willis, we will remember not only a dedicated professional but also a passionate aficionado of life, whose kindness and spirit of creativity touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.
