Dana Maurice Johnson, 72, of Independence, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Mt. Zion Restoration Branch Church, 15008 E 35th St, Independence, MO 64055. Dana was born on February 20, 1947 to Thomas and Beulah (Gregory) Johnson in Rockwood, TN. Dana was the first of two boys. Early in Dana’s life, the family moved to Kansas City. Growing up, Dana attended school and delivered newspapers. After graduating from Argentine High School, he went to college for a short time before enlisting in the Marines. He was honorably, medically discharged. After his discharge, Dana began working as a truck driver delivering to carriers for The Kansas City Star. He continued to deliver The Star to carriers until he retired in 2013. Dana had two sons, Tom and Bob. Through his involvement as a Scout leader, Dana met Karen (Randall) Frisbey and they were married in 1979. She had one son, Tim, and two step-children, Rick and Pam. Dana is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karen; children, Tom (Shelly) Johnson, Bob Johnson, Tim (Judy) Frisbey, Rick Frisbey, and Pam (Frisbey) Miceli; 10 grandchildren, Zachary Johnson, Christopher (Olivia) Johnson, Hillary Johnson, Adriana Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Nathanael (Amanda) Brown, Stefanie (Lance) Doty, Johnny Henderson, Tina (Aaron) Antrim, and Dustin (Christy) Henderson; and 10 great grandchildren, Brooklyn Johnson, Talon Riley, Jonathan Brown, Jayden Doty, Madison Doty, Nicholas Tinker, McKenzie Henderson, Caleb Antrim, Cody Antrim, and Cayden Antrim. Dana is preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Joe Johnson.
